In French, the word saute means to jump. It is a cooking method that uses a small amount of oil in a shallow pan over relatively high heat. It is also known as a dry-heat cooking method.

Confusing between saute vs pan fry:

Some people mix with pan-frying and sauteing. Pan-frying is a lot like sauteing but has a few differences.

Pan-frying uses slightly more fat and slightly lower heat than sauteing. It is a better method of cooking when you wish to cook chunky size of meat, fish, and vegetables.

On the other hand sauteing is a better method for thinner cuts of meat, fish, and vegetables.

When using saute cooking method:

This cooking method is used for cooking food quickly in a minimal amount of oil in high heat.

Advantages of saute:

  • Use a minimal amount of oil within a short time. So your food preserves texture, flavor, and moisture. Thin cut fish filet, soft meat like chicken breast, and any type of vegetables such as carrot, potato, green bean, onion, zucchini, etc are the perfect ingredients for sauteing method.

The disadvantage of sauteing:

  • Need more attention to maintain its natural color.

If you become an expert in sauteing vegetables get a tinge of color and stay slightly crisp and fish or meat get slightly brown but stay moist.
